PLEASE GIVE TO HELP SAVE THE COTTAGE
A profound creative force in England at the time of the American and French revolutions, William Blake’s work emphasizes the human duty to oppose oppression and injustice, support peace between nations, respect the natural world, and advance women’s rights.
2027 will mark the bicentenary of Blake’s death. The Blake Cottage Trust, a UK charity, has launched a £3 million fundraising campaign to finish restoration of the cottage in time for the worldwide celebrations. The Trust aims to restore the cottage as it was when the Blakes lived there to create a community resource for education, research, inspiration, and public engagement.

William Blake (1757-1827) lived in this humble thatched cottage in Felpham, England from 1800–1803. Here he wrote Jerusalem, was arrested, tried—and acquitted—for sedition, and produced some of his most influential works.
The cottage is the only intact Blake residence that remains today.
Blake’s revolutionary influence has long stretched across the Atlantic, inspiring a long list of American writers, poets, artists, activists, musicians, and dreamers—from Ralph Waldo Emerson to Allen Ginsberg, from women’s rights pioneer Lydia Maria Child to Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, and Eric Whitacre—and many others.
